Roses for February: The Dress

To celebrate the non-holiday of Valentines I am wearing my newly-finished Roses for February which seems appropriate. Sadly, the cardigan I am working on to go with this dress is not yet finished so I ended up pairing this with a store-bought sweater instead.

I’m not sure exactly what this fabric is – some kind of lightweight synthetic – this dress is mainly for spring/summer wear (it’s not lined). Paired with a slip, stockings and a cardigan however – it works for February too!

Total cost: $25 ($21 for 3 metres of material, about $4 in interfacing and thread). The pattern was one I’ve made before so I’m not counting it in the cost (Simplicity Amazing Fit 5818).

I am now making a third version of this dress in a voile with underlining and french seams. Now that I know the pattern works well for my figure (with and without sleeves) I would like to work on fancy-ing up my techniques to get a nicer finish inside and out.

Another version of the dress, pieces cut and underlined with a light satin.

Midtide swim date.
I completed this rug-sized piece of cross stitching 20 years ago but never finished it properly. I had a dream about it last night, which brought me to retrieve it from the trunk it was stored in this morning. Now I'm thinking about a little restoration work and putting a more functional backing on it after all these years.
The #flax project is coming along nicely.... some of it is six inches tall now!
Bought six vintage embroidered pillow cases for $14 today at a farm sale. I love the details on all of them, and look forward to dressing the Birdsong beds with them this summer. #textilestudio #textiledesign #vintagestyle #vintageembroidery #embroidery
First swim of the season, thus beating my spring swim record by one week (and by 20 minutes - the surface temperature was very warm).
We weeded and watered our flax yesterday, and it's looking good!
I finally got the top half of the McClure hutch (given to me by friend @afiah2o) into my studio this afternoon (thanks to some strong helpers!) I would like to hang it eventually, but knowing me I will probably just get used to it being slight off kilter in this way.
This is what I've been spinning lately, a super soft blend of wool and silk from @smallbirdworkshop. I'm getting close to finishing my second bobbin and plan to ply them into a chunky yarn for hat knits.
I haven't been posting for the last few days because I am burnt out from a whole lot of really intense stuff that's going on behind the scenes.
This beautiful tiny carving was gifted to me last night by a stone carver I know. Some time back, we gave her some Arbutus (Madrona) wood from our property, and this was her test piece. Apparently, carving Arbutus is a lot like carving stone since it's so hard.
Now this is a colourway! I plan to dye some spinning fibre in these colours when I get a chance.
