Coming back from our last summer weekend working on the property, it struck me that this has been a pretty phenomenal, action-packed summer. There was hiking and family visits, canning and gardening, making and meals with friends, and of course – the big land purchase. So here it is, my summer in pictures so I have a record of the awesome.
Started the summer with an early trip to Kamloops for work, then onto Princeton area and Manning Park. This picture is in Coalmont.
Had our first campfire in early June at Osprey Lake Rec Site.
Did my first canning of the summer with last autumn’s apples. Cheap! And good for sauce.
Made bandanas for the Mt. Robson hiking party.
Did more early season canning – pickled asparagus and rhubarb ketchup.
Took our first look at the Link Lake Lot in June.
Hiked a long way up for this view of Mount Robson.
Hung out with this awesome crew at the Berg Lake campsite.
Held hands with my sweetie at the BC/Alberta border in Mt. Robson Provincial Park.
Grew some beautiful cabbage.
Crocheted this shawlette while camping in Mt. Robson Park. Finished at home.
Sewed new curtain-doors for the bedroom closets.
Picked many, many green beans in July and August.
Grew stunning dahlias which came early this year.
Did lots of backyard drinking. Including these cherry mojitos.
Got an ice cream maker and made all sorts of awesome treats – like this coconut-milk based gelato with raspberry coulis.
Drove to Eagle Bay on Shuswap Lake for a family reunion.
Watched an epic storm on Shuswap Lake from my cousin’s back porch.
Went to my family’s reunion marking 100 years since my family came as homesteaders.
Talked to lots of people I haven’t seen in ages.
Had lots of awesome times with my awesome partner.
Started work on the LInk Lake lot.
Witnessed an epic storm at the Jura Ranch while driving back to our property one day.
Helped build this outhouse platform, plus did a ton of other work at our build site.
Picked a whole lot more produce when we returned from our Link Lake trip.
Made sauerkraut and other fermented goodness.
Canned 200 pounds of tomatoes among other things.
Made this lacy shawlette for a friend who doesn’t know it’s for her yet.
Crocheted this shawl for a family member’s holiday present.
Picked more garden goodness and flowers!
Dug up lots of potatoes – about ten pounds worth.
Watched our land partners build a frame for a woodshed on the Labour Day weekend.
Had our very first campfire on our property at Link Lake – these are the remnants.
Swam at the Osprey Lake community swimming hole.
And made this sweater (though I didn’t get a great photo of it).
