a few random thoughts today:
- my eyes are very dry today, and my throat is a little sore – but i’m thinking that’s just a side-effect of the burns bog fire since the city is still covered in a smoky haze.
- the canoeing trip made me realize how much i have missed hiking since breaking my ankle – although i went on one 50-km trip last summer, i have really wussed out since then and i feel a deep urgency to get my body back into good hiking form so i can hike enjoyably far into the future.
- my goal is to do one 100-km (7 day) trip spring or summer 2006.
- further to that, i would like to be doing 20-km day hikes regularly as a way of building up my endurance.
- i am actually feeling like having friends on the sunshine coast is a possibility – i know many people there now and i am feeling empowered to call them up and invite them to do things. i haven’t had to make new community for many years, it feels a little unsafe, but good.
- mirth told me recently that she read it takes on average 3 years before community feels like home.
- troubleshooting people’s software at work is the thing i hate most about my job.
- for some reason i’ve decided i would like to try writing some freelance backcountry travelogues with analysis for at least an online publication or two. directed writing would be good for me. i have pitched a couple of queries to this effect.
- i need to get a presentation suit or at least a jacket for an upcoming management presentation i have to give. the thought of getting up in front of those people and asking for money makes me a bit nervous – particularly since my chances of getting money are slim at best.
- it’s gettin close to ferry time and i am pretty happy about that!
I can attest to the 3 years.
