with one hand tied behind my back

making updates is hard with a bad hand 😦

so my trip to the gifford pinchot national forest this weekend was very enjoyable – lots of fresh air, sleeping out of doors, swimming in creeks, and tromping around in the woods while nathan measured little trees for his master’s research.

i would like to wax poetic about it – but i think the photos i posted yesterday speak volumes more than i can at the moment – and besides that typing is difficult since i pierced my hand with a knife while in the bush…..

yes, that’s right – i didn’t just cut myself, i actually put a knife right through the side of my forefinger (and pulled it back out again without realizing what i had done), and made two distinct wounds which will likely turn into two distinct scars if i am lucky (what’s the point of injuring yourself if you don’t have a scar to prove it?)

i’m glad i didn’t realize what i had done at the time or i might have passed out. there was a lot of blood as it was and i just wrapped it up quickly to staunch the blood flow – it wasn’t until 24 hours later that i looked at it carefully and realized exactly what had happened (though when nathan saw it the second time he figured it out). it’s all clean and wrapped now, and the swelling in the rest of my hand has gone way down – so it seems to be on the way to healing.

when it starts to look a little less yuck – i’ll take a picture of it and post it here so y’all can see i’m not complaining for nothing.

returned home yesterday in time for an appointment with the doctor on another matter, and then spent the evening lounging around my horrendously messy apartment with jess eating chinese food and watching the bourne identity.

i’m feeling a tad overwhelmed about my move at the moment since now i have a week to get everything ready to go which doesn’t seem like enough time (though it is). on top of that, my union is moving into an active strike position in the next month and i’ve got lots of organizing to do. too much going on and i only have one useful hand at the moment!

i’m glad i have some real time off coming up for the move and also for a mini-holiday with nathan on the oregon coast.
